The roof of the mouth is made of an incomplete hard palate. Nose’s internal part is located between the palatal bones and the vomer, caudal to the palatal process of the maxillary bone.
Palate mucosa has a non-keratinized stratified epithelium (Howell, 1969). It continues as the nasal cavity epithelium on the choanal bypass border.
This picture depicts the opening of the maxillary gland, the opening of lateral and mid palatal glands and the choanal opening (homologous to mammals’ mid palatal suture).
